WILLIAM J. GROVES

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Aug 15, 1902 p 1

Early Tuesday morning without the slightest warning that death had come to the home, William J. Groves, passed suddenly into the mystic future. The evening before he retired as well as usual and not until about 4 o'clock Tuesday morning was it discovered that something was wrong, when Mrs. Groves heard him breathing heavily and went to his bedside. She at once called for assistance but before she could hardly act, Mr. Groves had passed beyond all earthly aid. For a long time he had been afflicted with heart failure and to this was his death due. William J. Groves was born in Fleming County, Kentucky 15 July 1837; died 12 August 1902, age 65 years 27 days. He with his parents, Samuel and Mary E. Groves came to this state in October 1854. He was married to Lottie Grenard Oct 1, 1867. To them was born one daughter, who with his wife and one brother, A.W. Groves, still survive him. His father, mother, three sisters and two brothers have gone before him tot heir reward. He with his wife united with the Christian Church at Waveland soon after their marriage. Later having moved to this vicinity they became charter members of the Waynetown Christian Church in which church he continued his membership until death. He was a good neighbor, kind father and devoted husband. The funeral service was conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church by JH Newlin assisted by Rev JP Henson, interment taking place at the Masonic cemetery. - kbz
